Born and raised in the ranching communities surrounding Alice, Samuel Saenz grew up in a family where military service was deeply rooted. Inspired by relatives and older brothers who had already chosen careers in the armed forces, he followed a similar path and enlisted in the United States Navy.
Beginning his naval career shortly after completing boot camp, Saenz entered the fleet as a junior enlisted sailor. Through hard work, determination, and a commitment to excellence, he steadily advanced through the ranks, ultimately earning the respected title of Chief Petty Officer.
His service took place during a transformative period in American military history. Serving aboard Navy ships in the early 1960s, he worked alongside sailors from diverse backgrounds during a time when the nation was confronting significant social and racial challenges. These experiences helped shape his leadership philosophy, reinforcing the importance of professionalism, respect, and equal opportunity.
